Kitchen & Bath

Kitchen & Bath Remodeling

Complete or partial renovations, with full design services when the job needs them.

Where do old kitchens and bathrooms actually fail?

Bathrooms rarely fail where you can see it. The tile looks fine while water has been working behind it for years, through a cracked grout line, a tired caulk joint at the tub, or a valve that weeps into the wall. By the time a stain shows on the ceiling below or the floor feels soft beside the toilet, the damage is in the framing, not the finish.

Kitchens fail in a quieter way. The cabinets still hold and the range still lights, but the layout fights whoever is cooking. The fridge door blocks the dishwasher, the only landing space sits across the room from the cooktop, and the walkway runs straight through the work triangle. People live with that for a decade because nothing is technically broken.

A remodel is the right call when the problem is the plan or the hidden water, not the paint. Sometimes the honest answer is partial: new counters and a moved sink, or a shower rebuilt while the vanity stays. We'll tell you which one your room needs before anyone picks up a pry bar.

How does a remodel start with HIE?

It starts with a free estimate. A kitchen or bath is bigger than a one-day fix, so we come to the house in Fort Collins, walk the room with you, and work from your project details and photos. Ask for the in-home estimate through the form on the site, or call 970-632-0138 and we'll set it up.

Full design services are available when the job needs them, from the layout to the finish selections. The scope is yours to set: a complete gut and rebuild, or a partial renovation of just the pieces that are failing. The work is done by craftsmen with a minimum of fifteen years experience, in fully stocked service vans with GPS tracking, so a missing fitting doesn't turn into a lost afternoon.

Billing is by the craftsman hour at $165, with a 4-hour minimum. The materials we buy aren't marked up, because the hourly rate already covers the time to shop for them and deliver them. Subcontracted items such as countertops, cabinets and glass are marked up, and that is the only line where it happens. Our founder holds Graduate Master Remodeler and Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist credentials, which shapes how we plan a bathroom you can still use comfortably years from now.

What should you watch after the work is done?

All of our labor carries a one-year warranty. If a drain connection weeps or a cabinet door hangs crooked inside that year, call and we'll deal with it. That year is also your window to notice what only shows up with daily use.

In a new bathroom, check the caulk at the tub or shower edge and the grout lines through the first season. Both settle and shrink a little as the house moves, and a thin gap sealed early costs far less than water getting behind it. In a kitchen, watch drawer fronts and door gaps as the wood adjusts to Colorado's dry winters and the swing back to humidity.

Keep your receipts and finish names for anything we ordered, so a replacement later matches. And if the layout still feels off after a month of cooking in it, say so. A small move, like a shifted pull-out or a relocated outlet, is much easier to fix now than after you've stopped noticing it.
